Our students speak many languages and have varying levels of English. How does this linguistic diversity manifest in our studio conversations and critiques? Join Maya Krinsky MFA 14 PH of the Center for Arts & Language to learn about engaging multilingualism in art and design courses. Participants will develop practices for making critique more inclusive through open, direct conversation about language; translation-aware visual description and interpretation; and course routines that accelerate English language acquisition and student confidence. This workshop is especially beneficial for those teaching studio courses, but all faculty interested in understanding language support are encouraged to attend.

Instructor Bio

Maya Benizri Krinsky is associate director for multilingual learning at the Center for Arts & Language (A&L). She is certified in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) by the International Language Institute of Massachusetts and is a RISD alum (MFA Photography 2014). Her years of experience teaching international students and immigrants inform her work in and between visual practice, language learning and teacher training.
